JCVibe has a new contest. If you are the first to identify the location of twelve photos to be unveiled over the next two weeks, you will receive a $200 gift certificate for Hudson Camera.

Time Capsule noticed that DoJo has lost its soul.

111 First owner is a step closer to demolition.

A new gourmet shop opened in DoJo this month, and I thought, what better time to try them out than Thanksgiving? So on Wednesday night, we stopped by, partook of their free cosmos, and shopped for some cheeses.

After much sampling help from their fine cheese man, we excitedly went home with some cheese for our 4-cheese macaroni & cheese, and an order for an apple caramel walnut pie for Thanksgiving, each of which garnered raves from our family and friends.

Hourglass is a fabulous store. The quality & selection of the products it carries, as well as the knowlege and level of customer service of its employees surpassed my expectations.

I wish Karen and her husband the best of luck. Jersey City is a better town because of shops like Hourglass.

Move over, JCList, there's a new website in town!

I have no who is behind it or when it was launched, but I'm very happy to have stumbled upon Destination: Jersey City. It has a lot of useful features and content, and since there is no forum section [yet?], Mr. Falcon over at JCList has nothing to worry about.

Besides, the more the merrier, right?

Time Capsule, while on a recent business trip to India, found himself in a bizzaro world halfway around the world.

What can I say? You can take a man out of DoJo, but you can never take DoJo out of a man.

Inspired by two true stories -- the largest unsolved art theft in American history and the recent closing of the 111 First Street arts center in Jersey City, Art House Productions invites you into
a "living art gallery," where reinvented works by Rembrandt, Degas, Vermeer and more come to life in a multimedia exploration of the value we place on art and artists.

Go and see the show that everyone is talking about. There are two weekends left.

Saturday, November 12

Here're some more good news from the Melt man:

First (and foremost!) came the grilled cheese. It was unpredictably (and a
bit hesitatingly) followed by the meltburger, meltdog, veggie sandwich and
tuna melt. On Friday (tomorrow!), Melt introduces its 6th major item, the
T.N.T. quesedilla to its permanent menu. As with everything else, Melt
does it different and better (if I may say so.) The T.N.T. is not for the
faint of heart. It consists of smoked turkey ‘n triple cheese (habanero
cheddar, monterey jack & cheddar) with diced tomatoes & peppers and is
served with sour cream & pico de gallo. An accompaniment of Paco’s
homemade guacamole is an option that really should be a requirement… we
challenge you to find a better avocado spread. For the more adventurous or
for more faint of heart, substitutions are permissible whenever possible.

As a special inducement – not that you should need one - we are offering a
free cup of wine Friday and Saturday after 5pm to anyone who purchases the
TNT or any sandwich. Hope to see y’all this weekend!

Corzine won and Forrester [as well as the other minor party candidates] lost. I'm just happy that the campaigning from both major parties are over. It's time for clean-up, and I don't mean just the state government.

Now on to more pressing issues: who's going to Trivia Night at Barrow Street bar tonight? I might stop by later in the night.

I haven't been spending much time in DoJo these days [except to go home to eat and sleep], but my fellow JC bloggers have been writing about their exploits:

GeniusLessons noticed that JC is beginning to look a lot like Christmas. He also checked out the Iron Monkey, a bar I've yet to visit.

TimeBandit saw The Heist on Saturday, then decided to give the Golden Cicada some love after reading the great news about it in the paper.

Last but not least, NY6 noted that Newport Mall raised its parking fees last week, though understandably didn't bother to step foot in that crappy mall.

Several DoJo merchants are offering discounts and freebies to entice shoppers to come and check them out this Friday and Saturday.

From Wikipedia:
The bagua (Chinese: 八卦; pinyin: bā guà; Wade-Giles: pa kua; literally "eight trigrams", Korean 한국어: 팔괘) is a fundamental philosophical concept in ancient China. It is an octagonal diagram with eight trigrams on each side. The concept of bagua is applied not only to Chinese Taoist thought and the I Ching, but is also used in other domains of Chinese culture, such as fengshui, martial arts, navigation, etc.
A new juice bar opened on Manila [Grove] last month. It's called Bagua, and their drinks are great, the staff [though clearly still learning the ropes] is very friendly, and yes, the joint is very feng shui.

Hamilton Park Cafe on Grove and Grand is history, and has been replaced by Taqueria, the latest incarnation of the short-lived but much-loved Taco Truck seen around City Hall last month. Their grand opening is today, and we wish Phil and Andrea the best of luck! It looks like Bubby's Burritos has some serious competition.
