INTERNET KILLED THE RADIO STAR

Sure, we're proud of the fact that the world's best freeform radio station decided to roost in our little city in 1998 following their independence. Now we've got our own local internet radio, JCLIR, which features local bands with "worldwide appeal."

The current playlist still seems a little meager, but I expect it to grow considerably once word of mouth gets around. JC certainly has no shortage of fine local bands, from the Rebecca Vallejo Project to Tris McCall to the American Watercolor Movement to Black Sonny, just to name a few. I've also repeatedly heard that members of Ween live here, so they count as local bands, right? Right?

  • It's true! There's a plethora of bands that live here, also including the Milwaukees, Benzos, and Lismore, but there could stand to be more of a commmunity of musicans and support for each other. An internet radio station is a killer addition, but really, a good rock club is necessary. RIP Uncle Joe's, clearly.

  • first of all, thanks dojo mojo for the link and blog.

just so you know, the station came about because there aren't any real places for artists to play and i wanted to give them some exposure.

oh, and i'm getting more responses from bands that want to have airtime everyday (averaging about 3 requests a day), so the broadcast is expanding.

    thanks again dojo mojo.

  • you're welcome, vindog. your internet radio is a great idea. glad to hear that it's expanding, too. i'll shoot an email to some jc-based musician friends of mine and tell them to contact you. now ... when will you set up a podcast? =D

  • i've been thinking about a podcast for a few days now. i'd like to be able to play songs that aren't playing on the station, but some artists only gave me an ep with four songs (that's the max i can play per artist right now).

    but hopefully soon.

and i'll be looking out for your friends.

    thanks.
